WinterPLAY 2024 - Fundraising Opportunity

The WinterPLAY planning team is seeking support from local non-profit community organizations and groups to assist with WinterPLAY on various days from February 23 - March 3, 2024. There are multiple fundraising opportunities available for groups able to fulfill the requirements. Organizations may partner to fulfill the commitment and application requirements.

Applications are due on February 9 at 11:59 p.m.

Application Requirements

• Be a local non-profit organization, or a group fundraising for a local non-profit organization.
• Provide a lead contact, and a secondary lead contact for the organization to act as a liaison with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo WinterPLAY planning team. Leads must be present for their group’s shift(s).
• Attend an orientation session prior to WinterPLAY. Successful applicants must provide participant names and completed waivers at the orientation session.
• Ensure all participants are available for their designated start time and for the duration of their shift. Participants may switch out during the shift, if they have a signed waiver and the minimum number of participants is maintained.

The fundraising compensation is provided to the selected organizations following WinterPLAY and completion of the service tasks. Opportunities and service tasks are outlined below.

Opportunities

There are 11 General Event Support opportunities and eight Referee opportunities available.

• Apply separately for a referee opportunity.
• Each shift is 4 hours long.
• Fundraising compensation is $500.00.
• Minimum of 5 participants are required for the entirety of the shift.

Responsibilities for General Event Support may include all or some of the items listed below on an as-needed basis during the event. Other duties may be assigned as required.

• Green Team (ensure site is free of garbage and recycling, both inside and outside of tents).
• Firewatch (monitor the community bonfire).
• Site supervision (ice slides and general site).
• Activity support (e.g. horse drawn carriage rides, dog sled rides, etc.).
• Firework event support.
• Arrive 15 minutes ahead of your scheduled shift.

Organizations are encouraged to apply for all suitable opportunities. Applicants that meet all requirements will be selected at random using an automated system, if needed. Only one opportunity will be awarded to each successful applicant unless spots remain available after the deadline.
